[아트넷 뉴스] 예술가이자 운동가, 그리고 선동가인 Banksy
오늘 화상영어를 수업에서 괴도 루팡을 생각나게 하는 Banksy와 TED 스피커인 Sarah Gorbett의 "Activism Needs Introverts"에 관해 이야기했다.
Today, in a lesson with Tom, I talked about Banksy, a street artist, and "Activism Needs Introverts" by Sarah Gorbett, a TED speaker. Reading about what Banksy has done with his artworks reminded me of Phantom Thief Lupine.

아래는 몇 가지 암기하고 싶은 문장들이다.
The sentences below are the ones from the article above that I want to memorize.
(1) Paul Klee said that his painting was like taking a line for a walk," Banksy said to the observer in 2002, while promoting his boook and exhibition Existencilism. "Whereas my style is like taking a photocopier down a darkened alleyway and roughing it up."
(2) While people were frantically tearing down walls in London to sell them as valuable artworks, Banksy took his tagging to New Orleans in the wake of hurricane Katrina.
(3) Those lucky enough to find one of his pop-ups are often offered highly valuable works at a knock-down price.

Now, these are my thoguhts about the article and its summary.
The article is about Banksy's several famous artworks and what his artworks meant to others. He was a very rebellious figure and I know that from the profound meanings that his works connotate and the messages that he has delivered to people around the world through his works. So, many politicians and government authorities defined his works as vandalism and tried to tear down his artworks from the walls even though the property owners wanted to keep them. Also, I liked the part where the article cited his words. He compared his drawings with Paul Klee's by personalizing "a line," or by treating it as if it were alive. I thought it was so clever that most of the people who read that part in the article would get the clear meaning and intentions in his words. He was an artist but more of an activist, I would say. Through his bold artworks, he was brave enough to convey his messages that were implicitly forbidden to talk about in public and they definitly hit the spot for those who longed for such a plucky and daring activist speaking on behalf of them about uncomfortable matters.
