Masks for outdoor events not required starting Monday
2. (1) Currently, it is compulsory to wear a mask at outdoor gatherings of more than 50 people, performances, and sports matches.
(2) Considering the relatively low risk of outdoor infection, the measure will be lifted from Monday.
(3) Of this group, 97 percent had antibodies due to vaccination or having recovered after an infection.
3. The Yoon government has announced that outdoor mask mandate is going to be lifted from Monday next week. The reason behind the decision was based on the research results that outdoor activities were not the main cause of people being infected by the coronavirus. If anything, most of the confirmed cases were due to indoor activities where physical contacts were inevitable. Also, they ran a test to see if people have antibodies against Covid-19. It turned out that 97 percent of the people sampled were resistant to the coronavirus, as they were inoculated or had a history of recovering from Covid-19, which means that South Korea has met the requirements in achieving herd immunity. I, myself, caught Covid-19 twice: one in March and the other one last month. As the mandatory mask wearing measurements are to be eliminated, it was worth it. The third one? No thank you. Anyways, it felt great to imagine myself taking off a mask and getting some fresh air in a long time.
